Students
will be introduced to Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art
using both print materials, Take 5 Art prints and the
Illusion4 Palm OS program. The Illusion4 program will
serve as a way to bridge the gap between objective and
non-objective art and the story or messages found in paintings. |
Lesson Goals
- Students
will improve their visual literacy with regards to Abstract
Expressionsism (non-objective) and Pop art. They will have an
increased appreciation for both Abstract and Pop art. They will
complete a research and art production project that focuses
on one artist from the two art styles presented.

- Art:
An A-Z Guide by Shirley Greenway
Procedures
- Students
will be introduced to abstract/pop art using both prints and
the Illusion4 program. They will be shown artists such as Warhol,
Lichtenstein, Pollack, and Kandinsky.
- They will
be asked to talk about images they have seen that were abstract,
showed objects in a manner that was very exaggerated, or hidden
images within images. They will be asked about how such images
are used, what purpose they could have.
- They will
be shown examples of the type of art they will research, be
given names of some artists that fit the categories, and some
websites they can use in their research using FlingIt. Students
will research their chosen area and write the research and presentation
notes in Docs-to-Go.
- After they
have researched and chosen the artist/style they wish to present,
they will create an art piece using Sketcher to help create
an image they will finalize and create using the media of their
choice on an (obviously) larger scale.
- When they
give their oral presentation of their style/artist they will
also display their artwork with other prints in the same style/by
the same artist. They may use notes taken on Docs-to-Go during
their presentation to maintain their focus and ensure accuracy.
