What Makes a Leader a Leader?

Students will read about the qualities of being a leader and answer case study problems by using the Leadership Course by Empowering Technologies on their handheld.

Lesson Goals

    • Students will be able to identify the four qualities of leadership
    • Students will be able to recognize the difference between managing and leading.
    • Students will be able to define what being a leader is.
    • Students will be able to relate the four qualities of leadership to two case studies.

    Procedures

    1. Discuss the lesson goals.
    2. Pair the students up into groups of two.
    3. Beam Leadership Demo course to one handheld per group.
    4. Beam PiCoMap to the other handheld in each group.
    5. Handout directions sheet for the students assignment related to PiCoMap.
    6. The Leadership Demo course will guide the students through a leadership workshop. They will read information on the qualities of being a leader. They will also read two case studies in this demo.
    7. As students read the Leadership Demo course together, they will draw a PiCoMap of what they have learned.
    8. Have students share PiCoMaps with the class.
    9. Discuss the answers to the lesson goals.
    10. Beam all students Quizzler and the quiz over leadership.
    11. Have students take a mini-quiz on Quizzler about what they learned from the demo course.
    12. Have students show you their scores after they take the quiz.
