Lesson Goals

    • Students will be able to describe the 4 phases of the waxing and waning moon (full, half, crescent, gibbous).
    • Students will note patterns in the moon’s phases for the upcoming months.
    • Students will use sketchy to illustrate their learning.
    • Students will test their knowledge by writing quiz questions and taking a quiz on the phases of the moon.

    Procedures

    1. Students surf through the Moon Phases application and record any interesting/important information they find.
    2. As a class, brainstorm on the chalkboard their findings and be sure to include the names of the phases of the moon.
    3. Students use Noah Lite to look up and define the phases of the moon. They record their findings on their paper.
    4. Use Sketchy to illustrate their learning. Be sure they include both pictures and words on their slides.
    5. After sharing their Sketchys, each student writes one question containing facts they have learned.
    6. Compile the questions into one quiz on Quizzler and have the students test their learning by taking the quiz.
