Lesson Goals

    • The students will complete a Quizzler about economic and game terms.
    • The students will travel to least 4 planets and maintain their money or increase it.
    • The students will determine which planet provides the best resources to increase their money.
    • The students will compare the similarities and differences of 3 planets that they visited using PiCoMap.
    • Optional: The students will create a Sketchy to sell a star in our galaxy. Use FlingIt to capture websites about stars. Yahooligans is great resource.

    Procedures

    1. Introduce the economic and game terms (the list of words is attached).
    2. Beam students the Quizzler that reviews the terms. Use FlingIt to capture the Read Me text for the game and beam it students. The students can use the Read Me text to locate terms and definitions to complete the quiz. This will help in playing the game.
    3. Introduce the students to the game, it is important to show them the drop down menu and the options they can set up.
    4. Review the worksheet that states the goals of the activity.
    5. Students begin actual game. They can keep track of the goals using the worksheet.
    6. Students can stop the game at anytime and resume where they left off. That is a great feature of this activity.
    7. When the students have ended the game they can create a sketchy about one of the planets, that includes what the inhabitants look like, the housing, the ship they flew and other details.

    Other Options for the Game

    • Students could beam a strategy to each other as they are playing.
    • Students can develop their own Quizzler about some of the planets.
    • Students can write a story using What-If Builder Palm application.
