Lesson Goals

    • Students will learn the meaning of new vocabulary words.
    • Students will locate synonyms for each vocabulary word.
    • Students will collect and store definitions and synonyms in their database.
    • Students will create programs that will enhance others’ learning.

    Procedures

    1. Provide vocabulary words and beam Noah Lite to each student.
    2. Open and demonstrate Noah Lite by instructing students to tap on the “F”. Typing the vocabulary word prepares a list. Tap on the word. Students read to learn the definition and synonym.
    3. Open Address Book. Under (Last Name) students enter the vocabulary word. Under (Title) enter the definition. Under (Company) enter a synonym.
    4. Assign a different word to each student (or pair of students) and beam Sketchy. Tell students that Sketchy works like a computer drawing program and each screen is a like a slide. Tap the double squares in the bottom right corner for each new slide. Follow the numbers at the bottom of the screen each time you add a slide. Students create an animation that describes their assigned word. Students open Sketchy and choose (new). Students create several frames demonstrating or defining their word. Students will share their original animations to each other.
    5. Assign students into groups. Have groups create questions using the Quizzler format “Creating Quizzler Quizzes” in the Memo Pad. When questions are prepared, beam Quizzler to students. Students open Quizzler and under Options choose Import Memo. Play Quizzler! Can students select the correct answer?

    Options

    • Categorize words such as parts of speech using the address book under (Details).
    • Create original sentences with each word using a word processor for handhelds. Or enter in Address Book under last remaining category heading, (Work).
    • Could be used with any subject area with unfamiliar words in a new chapter.
