Aid
This software offers useful information
to help you deal with common urgent
and emergency care situations, ranging
from a nosebleed or sunburn to a
life-threatening heart attack or
stroke. This
application required you to install
a .prc file and a .pdb file. |
BeepMaker
Students can discover the relationship between hertz and time to create
different sounding beeps. Students can predict what the beep will
sound like before they play it. |
ChemTable
Free Periodic Table of Elements! Tapping on any of the element boxes in the Periodic
Table will bring up a dialog showing a list of physical/chemical properties. |
Cooties
This application has students simulate how a virus moves. It also has students
work together to discover the path of the virus. |
Earth
and Sun
This application shows the Sun Illuminated area of the Earth. It will also
display: the latitude and longitude of an Earth location, the time zone
at that location, based on only longitude not civil boundaries, the current
time at that location based on the above time zone, the sunrise, sunset
times, and day length at that location, the great circle distance between
to locations on the earth. |
Ecological
Footprint Calculator
Students take a survey and then the Palm calculates his or her ecological
footprint. It shows the footprint in various graph and visual forms! |
Geney
Students collaborate to breed an alien with certain characteristics. Students
can play this one for hours! May not function properly on Palm OS 5 handhelds. |
JadeCompass
A digital compass that works based on the current time of day and the position
of the Sun. Alternatively find North for a selected time of day.
This is a good tool to have students explain how the "digital
compass" works. Also great for math to reinforce angle degrees. |
Moon
Phase
Shows the phase of the moon for any given date. Even display a picture
of the moon. |
NineColours
Slide bars to add primary colors of light together: blue, red, and green.
Study how mixing red, blue, and green colors of light make white
light! |
NSB
Lander
Students try to land a spacecraft on the moon, Earth, and Jupiter. Students
quickly discover that the amount of gravity affects how difficult it is
to land softly and how much fuel is used. There are three files to install
for NSB Lander to work properly. It is better to distribute this application
by HotSync since beaming involves three files. Doesn't
work well with Palm OS 5 and above. |
QDiary
Students can make diaries of sequential values triggered by time/date.
All of this information is saved in a MemoPad document. Students
can record such things as temperature and weight. I use it with students
to track the growth of lab rats for the dairy council's Rats Are
Teaching Science program. |
Sky
Chart
Displays the night sky at any time and place. Students can compare the
the sky at different times of year or from one location on Earth to another. Why
are the constellations in different positions? |
Space
Weight
Calculate weight on other planets. |
Track
Track is a generic logging and charting program. Virtually any type of
data may be easily recorded for quick visual inspection of trends.
Track supports multiple databases and the ability to export data
to other programs. This is handy to chart daily or weekly times tests
results. This application requires two files to be installed on the
Palm in order for it to work. |
What-If
Builder
The What-If Builder is a tool that enables students to create decision-tree models,
also known as "Action Mazes," "tree literature," "plot
branching" or "choose your own adventure. For science, students can
build a key to identify a species. |
