Newsfeeds & Podcasts on Pocket PCs

Learning2Go WebsiteThe Wolverhampton Local Authority in the U.K. has been using Pocket PCs for a few years. They call their project Learning2Go and the students and teachers involved are doing amazing things with their tiny computers. Recently Learning2Go started a blog and podcast. Although the podcast is available in iTunes, Wolverhampton learners can use FeederReader on their Pocket PCs to subscribe to the blog and podcast. Here's the description of FeederReader from its website:

FeederReader is a full-featured RSS Aggregator with podcast listening and watching ("podcasting" or "podcatching") and enclosure support, running on Windows Mobile. It is designed for downloading and reading RSS feeds on Smartphones and Pocket PCs without the assistance of a host computer. You can update the feeds when the device is connected to the internet (i.e. through a LAN or Mobile Phone) and read them while offline.
Learning2Go has posted video tutorials to show how to manage feeds in FeederReader. FeederReader is available for download and requires free registration. Once installed, you can subscribe to newsfeeds and podcasts. Besides the Learning2Go feed, try subscribing to the Our City Podcast feed. New episodes have been posted this month!

Thanks for mentioning the Learning2Go Initiative and http://www.learning2goblog.org" REL="nofollow">blog/podcast site, Tim. Can I just correct one detail in your article? Learning2Go is a Wolverhampton Local Authority (Council) initiative, and is not led by the City Learning Centre. The CLC acts in a supportive role in some aspects of Learning2Go, notably in the blog/podcast/FeederReader project.

It's also worth pointing out that the version of FeederReader we are using has been modified for an educational audience by its author Greg Smith. Greg worked with the CLC to simplify some of the more complex options and to remove features with the potential to bring the wireless network of a school to its knees if lots of students are using the software at the same time. The tutorial videos apply to the LearningGo version of FeederReader and things will therefore look slightly different when compared to the version obtainable from the http://www.feederreader.com" REL="nofollow">FeederReader website.

Thanks for the information, Richard! I corrected the LEA/Learning Centre part of the post. And thank you for letting us know about your custom version of FeederReader.

Thanks for making the change, Tony. And sorry for calling you Tim! (Tim Vincent is a TV presenter in the UK).

It would be great if friendly people could submit some comments on the podcasts from our primary schools on the http://www.learning2goblog.org" REL="nofollow">Learning2Go Blog and Podcast site. I'm not sure that the students actually believe there is a worldwide audience for their work ... please show them they are wrong!
